Coaches Comments on Study Circles

Having the occasion to attend several Study Circles in Rockford, I'm very impressed at how many people are concerned about the vitality of the community. Study Circle participants are identifying a wide range of creative ways to reduce poverty. The process is working!

There is a buzz in the air around Rockford. People are talking. I tell everyone about this Horizons Project and invite them to take part. See you at the movie Saturday, Nov 15th!

The buzz in the air around Rockford freshens like a brisk spring breeze! Great things are happening!

Horizons participants take part in Town Council meetings, connect with Mayor Wagner, McIntosh Grange members, as well as with Rockford Lions, Hangman Creek Chamber of Commerce, Churches, and other groups.

The vitality released is unmistakeable and contagious!

Summertime Movies in the Park delight young and old, and attract new residents who have settle "in the town that fosters family gatherings."

Seniors liven up the third Tuesday of each month at St. Joseph's Parish Hall, 138 S. River St. They eat Soup-Potluck, learn from experts about subjects of interest, share commaraderie and games.

Teens and adults mingle, dance and have fun times at McIntosh Grange.

Saturday Farmers Market became a reality in 2008! It will grow and include crafts and yard sales throughout the summer season, 2009.

The buzz is here to stay! The toughest challenge will yield to ongoing efforts by everyone who cares, and before many years pass Rockford WILL have a Community Center.

The needs of our youth and our rural senior citizens are surfacing; they can be addressed and resolved.

Attend the REPORT OUT April 14th at St. Joseph's Parish Hall, 138 S. River St. Enjoy free Pizza at 6:30 p.m. and the add your voice and turn the buzz into a choir of successes!

Patrick, our WSU Ext Horizons' Coach spoke at the last council meeting April 15th. The Mayor and the council are all participating in different areas of our plans for Rockford through Horizons.
They are all supporting our efforts for the Community Gardens: one member is spraying weeds, one member is rototilling for us, one member allows us to hold meetings at The Harvest Moon, others will be planting and weeding and harvesting.
The Horizon's group also is helping get the Town of Rockford Website up. We are working on it as we speak and welcome volunteers and advice on any of our activities. Please join in or call Todd at 291-4601 to find out the next meetings. Major meetings will be Tuesdays- June 23 & 30th at 6 pm at the Harvest Moon.
"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has." quoted from: Margaret Mead in the Readers Digest Jan 2009
We are exploring ways to actually get a Community Center Building and there are all sorts of activities we are planning: Computer classses, Library, Tutoring, games and fun. What would you like to see happen in Rockford? There are surveys around town and in the Rockford Utility bill & newletter. We have a Community Calendar that has been going out in the Utility Bill also. Look at all the Horizons group has done for us already and be in on what we will do!
